Native Artists featured during 'Artist Conversation " series
Three talended Oklahoma artists are featured at the Red Earth Museum in January and February as the "Artist Conversation" series resemes at the museum and gallery. The series is sponsored in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
In addition to the "Artist Conversation" series, the artists will participate with the Arts Council of Oklahoma City to provide free lunchtime arts programming to the downtown community through an initiative called Art Moves.
Red Earth artists Gordon Yellowman (Cheyenne), Patta LT (Choctaw), and Peggy Brennan (Cherokee) will demonstrate their artistic talents during the free lunchtime presentations. After their presentations, the artists will spend the afternoon at the Red Earth Museum, followed by an "Artist Conversation" with refreshments free to the public from 5-7 pm. 
Yellowman, featured Thursday, Jan 26 noon to 1 pm in the Chase Tower Lobby at 100 N. Broadway in downtown OKC. Gordon is from El Reno, OK, and was named 2010 Red Earth Honoroed One. He is an award-winning artist, photographer and storyteller.
Patta LT, from Norman, OK will share her artistic talents from noon to 1 pm Wednesday, Feb
1 at Leadership Squre, 211 N. Robinson. She is an independent artist specializing in hand painted silk paintings, scarves, sarongs and other wearable art.
Brennan is a master weaver and historian of Cherokee basket traditions. Her demostration is from noon to 1 pm on Thursday, Feb. 23 at Leadership Square, She calls Edmond, OK home and is steeped in knowledge about how to gather and prepare plants for weaving and for making dyes. Her baskets are sought after as she turned her focus from art competition to teaching.

Interview with an Artist: DON NIETO
light foot * strong heart on view through March 31
A series of Native American dancer portraits, mostly taken during the 2010 and 2011 Red Earth Festival dance competitions, are featured in a new exhibit by award-winning photographer John Jernigain on view through March 31 at Red Earth. The exhibit, titled "light foot * strong heart" includes 30 color portraits of American Indian dance competitors from throughout the US.
Jernigan is a contributing editor at OKLAHOMA TODAY magazine and owner of John Jernigan Point of View, a photography business based in Oklahoma City. With more than 30 years of experience in advertising, architectural and editorial photography, he continues to finesse and refine his art - creating visually stunning images. "light foot * strong heart" is the first exhibition scheduled for the new gallery space at the museum.
Jernigan has traveled the world capturing images through his lens. In 2011 he was recognized by the Tulsa Press Club with Great Plains Journalism Awards for 2011 Magazine Photographer of the Year and the 2011 Magazine Portrait Award. The awards are some of the most prestitious journalism awards in mid-America.
His images are part of numerous public collections including the International Photography Hall of Fame, National Endowment for the Arts, Oklahoma Arts Council and the Oklahoma State Capitol Permanent Collection.
